Phil Says
Food
There are some foods which I like and some that I don't like. Here is what I think about some of them.
Because of my current job, I tend to eat out most of the time. My favorite foods are Italian, Chinese, Traditional English and Indian. I am, however, fairly fussy about what's in the food. Right, now that I've warned you, here we go...
I think that the top of my list must be Lasagne Verdi with chip and peas (best served in a pub with a pint of real ale). This fantastic meal can be desecrated easily by covering the lasagne with herbs or ground pepper, putting mushrooms in it, or over cooking the peas.
Pizza comes in for a close second. As Garth said, in Waynes World, 'Pizza is like sex. Even when it's bad, it's kinda good'. Pizza is not so easy to spoil but, again herbs (all those chopped up twigs and leaves?) don't do it any favours -they just get stuck in you teeth. There are a few toppings which I'm not too keen on either; little salty fish (anchovies) -who want's to spoil a pizza with lumps of salt? -probably people without tastebuds (smokers), and I'm not too keen on mushrooms and olives either.
I'm rather keen on Chinese food in general, although I don't tend to have their soups -especially fishy flavour (they seem to leave bones etc in). One of my favorites is sweet and sour chicken (not in chip shop batter) with egg fried rice and prawn crackers. I also like fried noodles.
I can't forget the classic sunday lunch at home; oven cooked chicken, plain stuffing (not the fancy fruit flavoured ones), roast potatoes, steamed vegetables and gravy. I probably miss this one the most at the moment because, I work on the weekends, taking climbing parties and therefore can't visit my parents.
I haven't had beef steak for ages but, I still have fond memories of it, served with boiled potatoes, peas and fried onions. I like it very well done, cooked all the way through, grilled with woucestershire sauce. This can be totally spoiled by smothering it with garlic butter. I also like sliced, roast beef with carrot and onion sauce and Yorkshire Pudding.
I always used to avoid currys until I went to university. It was when I got very drunk and bored with pitta bread and chips that I tried my first onion bhaji and curry, a chicken korma. I like quite a few different curries but, I still enjoy a chicken korma. I prefer to eat my curries with chapattis rather then rice.
I also like some mexican food.
I'm not a huge fan of junk food (burgers and fries) but, it's so quick and easy. This is why it makes up a large part of my diet.
I like fruit and veg but, it often takes a lot of effort.
